Space-Grade 100 Million Gate-Level FPGA with High Reliability and Security Launched

FPGA is a kind of programmable chip, which can realize various complex functions through hardware programming. With powerful computing power and strong flexibility, it is known as the "Transformer" in chips. As a key&core component of aerospace craft, FPGA supports national strategic security, major frontier technologies and important strategies.

To solve the technical issue, the containment of aerospace key&core components, BMTI focuses on the development of high-end FPGAs, and has developed 100 million gate-level space-grade FPGA-BQR7VX690TRAB with the national highest integration, performance, reliability and security.

As the space mission develops towards load data real-time processing, multi-task access and multi-source information fusion, national space projects have put forward higher requirements for the core device FPGA with the features of real-time on-orbit data processing speed, data storage capacity, information acquisition, transmission speed and other aspects. To meet the model application requirements, BMTI started to develop the 100 million gate-level FPGA. Having solved difficulties of large-scale circuits and high technical complexity, the team that undertook the task overcame challenges, e.g. configurable mixed-mode clock management, multi-channel high-speed serial interface, IP support protection and tamper-proof configuration circuit.

BQR7VX690TRAB adopts ceramic package, with equivalent system gates up to 100 million gate-level, embedded power-efficient transceiver support line rate from 500 Mbps to 8.5 Gbps, aggregate bandwidth over 100Gbps, 52Mb block RAM memory and peak computing capacity of 3.9TMAC/s. Its radiation resistance index has reached the international advanced level, with total ionizing dose over 300K radSiand single event latch-up immunity over 75MeV·cm2/mg. Compared with BQR5V series FPGA, BQR7VX690TRAB’s maximum clock frequency is increased by 170%, communication rate by 230%, bandwidth by 380%, and integration by nearly 300%. BMTI solves the serious “StarBleed” vulnerability which exists in Xilinx 7 series FPGA. BQR7VX690TRAB can be applied in various aerospace tasks which require high bandwidth communication, high resolution image processing, navigation and obstacle avoidance.

After unremitting efforts for more than ten years, the FPGA team of BMTI has successively developed the first defense-grade 10 thousand gate-level FPGA and the first space-grade million gate-level FPGA. Meanwhile, BQR7VX690T and other two productsare launched successfully. In addition, the team will develop programmable SoC series products which integrate processors and programmable logic so as to further expand the product family. In the future, BQR7VX690T will contribute to domestic high-end ICs in the new generation of space projects as the representative of the aerospace “Transformer” chip, to promote the independent control of national aerospace key&core components to a higher level.
